This is the story to practice modals for deductions in the past: Tom and Frank are friends, but they live in different cities. Tom lives in Seattle while Frank lives in New York. Last week Tom flew to New York and dropped by Frank's house for a surprise visit. Unfortunately, Frank had left on business, so...

Now, listen and repeat:

Tom and Frank are friends.
Frank wasn't home...
when Tom went to visit.
Tom must've been mad.
Frank might've stayed...
if Tom had called.
They can't have been glad.
